Guests can even participate in a weekend match with a prior Mandarin riding lesson or polo handicap from a recognized federation that shows adequate riding ability. Onsite polo expert, Gustavo Mega Ortiz is an expert horseman who oversees the Mandarina Polo & Equestrian Club. He is responsible for organizing regular polo tournaments, horse riding experiences, and other inspiring activities.
Guests who prefer to be spectators have a lot to enjoy at One&Only Mandarina. The resort hosts polo matches on select Fridays and Saturdays from November through May. For USD $50 per person, guests can enjoy a welcome drink and light bites. USD $135 includes a selection of canapés, a signature Mandarina cocktail, and a glass of Prosecco for halftime. Guests can also purchase beverages a la carte during the match.
After the match, friends and family come together at Chukker, an open-air asado (barbecue) that overlooks the polo field. The immersive dining experience can be arranged for 16 to 25 guests and showcases an array of fine cuts and vegetables grilled over open flames.
Down the coast, within the picturesque coastal village of San Pancho, Tierra Tropical offers an authentic and vibrant polo experience. The facility boasts a meticulously maintained polo field, where guests can participate in comprehensive courses tailored to their skill levels. Tierra Tropical Polo Club was founded in 2001 with the goal of bringing equestrian sports to the coast of Nayarit. Open to anyone, the club is available for riding lessons, polo lessons, or for spectators to enjoy a polo match amid the tropical vegetation and spectacular Sierra Madre views.
All coaches at Tierra Tropical are experienced polo players, which allows each one to provide students with high-quality training, no matter their skill level. The club’s three expert professionals have experience playing polo all around the world. In addition to more than three decades of experience combined, the polo professionals at Tierra Tropical are all passionate about horse care and equestrian safety.
Lessons are ideal for guests to spend time with the family or to learn one-on-one. Guests can watch the exciting matches that run from November through May at the polo club. In May 2024, Tierra Tropical hosted the Riviera Nayarit Copa de Polo, a weekend of events that featured polo matches, gastronomic experiences, live performances, and an awards ceremony.
From November through May, a Polo Brunch is held every Sunday at 11 a.m., before the matches begin at noon. From November through July, Tierra Tropical hosts Sunset Grill & Polo every Saturday, which opens two hours before sunset.
