Eva Longoria Shows the Greatness of the State of Yucatan, its Maya Culture and Gastronomy
Mérida, Yucatan, April 04, 2023.- On March 26, the actress and businesswoman Eva Longoria Gastón premiered the show “Searching for Mexico” on CNN, a new program with which she seeks to connect with her Latin roots and show the world the incredible Mexican cuisine.
In this adventure, Eva projects her passage through different parts of the country, including the state of Yucatán, with the episode airing on April 2nd. During 2022, Longoria toured the Mayab lands while discovering the state’s most impressive settings, where she selected one of the locations to record an episode of this series.
The chapter dedicated to Maya culture and gastronomy in Yucatan premiered this Sunday, April 2; showing the thousands of CNN viewers her journey through haciendas, cenotes, local markets, Magical Towns, archaeological zones, beaches, and Maya villages that were undoubtedly extraordinary settings.
Some of the locations were Hacienda Chablé Resort, Hacienda Aké, the San Antonio Mulix cenote, Paseo de Montejo, Izamal, Xocen and Uxmal.
Yucatecan chefs such as Regina Escalante from Merci restaurant and Roberto Solís from Huniik restaurant, joined the actress during her tour, teaching her about the typical spices, smells and flavors of Yucatan, visiting Celestún and the Santiago Market, to later visit their restaurants and enjoy one of their creations. Throughout the program, we can see how Yucatecan gastronomy, with dishes such as stuffed cheese, cochinita pibil, beans with pork, and tikin xic fish, seduce the palate of the actress who enjoyed every bite.
During this experience, Longoria learned to make the famous recado negro from scratch, an activity part of the 365 Flavors in Yucatan, a campaign that seeks to promote the entity’s gastronomy through experiences around the culinary offer of the state, ranging from the tasting of a succulent dinner in one of the most emblematic restaurants of the destination or through traditional gastronomy classes or honey or beer tastings to name a few. The actress mentioned on her social networks that, during the chapter made in Yucatan, “she learned too much about Mayan traditions and history”, and that she hoped everyone would see what this magical destination is about. The campaign was a winner at this year’s Taste Awards in Beverly Hills.
Yucatán has been recognized for its historical and archaeological greatness and has recently experienced a boom in its gastronomy, where Mayan and Yucatecan cuisine come together from the traditional to the contemporary, offering a wide range of restaurants with chefs and traditional cooks that display dishes that surprise those who try them.
Programs such as Longoria’s and others with national and international reach have set their sights on Yucatan and have discovered the magic of its flavors, smells, and colors, confirming that Yucatan has everything it needs to become a preferred gastronomic destination.
In November of last year, Yucatán hosted Latin America’s 50 Best Restaurants receiving more than 150 chefs of international stature, while at the same time, the 1st “Flavors of Yucatán” Festival was held, strengthening this event with the presence of gastronomy stars, while for this 2023, Brussels World Cup is expected to happen, an event positioned in the world as an oenological reference competition.
