Nayarit Celebrates Pride Month and Joins the International Gay and Lesbian Travel Association

Nayarit, Mexico – June 27, 2024 – Mexico’s vibrant state of Nayarit is proud to announce its celebration of Pride Month, marking a significant milestone in its commitment to inclusivity and diversity. As part of its ongoing efforts to promote equality and support the LGBTQ+ community, Nayarit has officially joined the International Gay and Lesbian Travel Association (IGLTA).

This exciting development highlights Nayarit’s dedication to fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment for all visitors. By becoming a member of the IGLTA, Nayarit aligns itself with global standards of inclusivity, positioning the state as a premier destination for LGBTQ+ travelers.

As part of the Pride Month celebrations, three of Nayarit’s esteemed hotels are offering exclusive Pride packages:

St. Regis Punta Mita

St. Regis Punta Mita invites all couples to experience its Pride & Joy package. Set on 22 lush acres, this iconic luxury resort, fresh off of a multimillion-dollar renovation, includes roundtrip airport transportation, breakfast for two guests daily, 20 percent off at The St. Regis spa, and roundtrip transportation between the resort and downtown Puerto Vallarta. This package is valid for stays between June 20, 2024, and October 31, 2024.

W Punta de Mita

W Punta de Mita is celebrating Pride Month with several initiatives available during Pride Month. Its A Pour for Pride program includes new cocktails inspired by iconic queer celebrities. Fridays during June, the Living Room Bar will set the vibe for the night with queer guest mixologists and guest DJs.

Nukari Quinta Boutique

In Jala, one of Nayarit’s Pueblos Magicos, Nukari Quinta Boutique has curated a spa package for couples in honor of Pride Month. The package for two includes accommodations, a romantic spa suite, one holistic massage per person, access to the wet areas for two, one drink of choice per person, and a daily continental breakfast. The package starts at MX5,450 (USD 300).

An inclusive destination

The inclusion of Nayarit in the IGLTA network is expected to attract diverse tourists, further boosting the local economy and promoting cultural exchange. The state’s unique blend of natural beauty, rich history, and vibrant culture makes it an ideal destination for LGBTQ+ travelers seeking a memorable and inclusive vacation.

The state has long been an ally for the LGBTQ+ community. It is one of the many states in Mexico that recognize same-sex marriage and has always been a champion for inclusivity. In 2022, the destination’s beaches, also known as the Riviera Nayarit, took home the award for LGBTQ travelers at the LGBT+ Travel Awards Mexico, held in Guadalajara. The organization recognized Riviera Nayarit for its diversity, inclusion, and respect for all.

The coastal towns of Nayarit provide luxurious beachfront accommodations, bohemian villages, wellness, and rugged natural beauty. Plus, Nayarit is just across the bridge from Puerto Vallarta’s nonstop energy, one of the most famous hotspots for LGBTQ+ travel in the world.

But the LGBTQ+ community is welcome far beyond the beaches in the state of Nayarit. Tepic, the state capital, hosts an annual Pride march every June and is home to a healthy handful of gay bars.

Travelers of all interests and tastes are drawn to the wide variety of activities and environments that the state of Nayarit provides. Among the top draws is the lengthy list of luxury hotels, resorts, and villas. Punta Mita is one of the top luxury enclaves in Mexico, home to five-star resorts like St. Regis Punta Mita, Four Seasons Punta Mita, Susurros del Corazon, part of the Auberge Resorts Collection, Conrad Punta Mita, and W Punta de Mita. Up the coast, One&Only Mandarina continues to draw the spotlight, and a Rosewood resort is expected to open in 2025.

Nayarit is perfect for active travelers, particularly surfers. Wildlife enthusiasts can spot thousands of migratory birds in the seaside village of San Pancho. Islas Marietas National Park, just off the coast of Punta Mita, is a protected park known for its marine life. Hiking, mountain biking, and wellness are all part of the Nayarit experience.

Nayarit is home to nine Pueblos Magicos, the highest number for any state in the country. These include Jala, Sayulita, Mexcaltitan, Compostela, San Blas, Ixtlandel Rio, Ahuacatlan, Amatlan de Casas, and Puerto Balleto.

Access to Nayarit from the U.S. and Canada is incredibly easy. Puerto Vallarta is just a quick drive away, and its Licenciado Gustavo Díaz Ordaz International Airport is one of the busiest in Mexico. That airport is currently in the middle of adding a second terminal. Visitors to Nayarit can also fly into Guadalajara and the state capital, Tepic. The Riviera Nayarit International Airport recently completed its first international test flight, and the airport is expected to be ready for international traffic by the end of 2024.
