Nayarit joins the WTTC´s Hotel Basics initiative to promote sustainability in the hotel industry.The initiative is a tool for the industry to continue adapting and evolving the meet the needs of both travelers and the planer.
Nayarit. Mexico — In a joint effort to promote sustainability in travel and tourism, the Mexican state of Nayarit joins the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) Hotel Basics initiative. This alliance seeks to establish criteria global sustainability standards in the hotel industry and marks a significant step towards a more committed to caring for the environment and developing its communities.
The Hotel Basics initiative, led by Julia Simpson, President and CEO of the WTTC, emerged in response to the growing demand from the global hotel brands to develop fundamental criteria of sustainability, designed by and for the industry. These criteria will be mandatory for all accommodation providers, including hotels, guests houses and tourists residences.
Hotels, guest houses and tourist residence may adopt the 12 criteria of the initiative, focused on the following lines of action:
1. Measure and reduce energy and water consumption, as well as reduce waste and carbon emissions.
2. Fundamental actions to protect theenvironment.
3. Fundamentalactions towards a positive contribution to the communities in which theyoperate and find.
The Hotel Basics initiative is supported by tens of thousands of registered hotels across the country and the world that included renowned hotels groups such as Meliá, Radisson, Accor, Jin Jiang, Louvre and Meninger since its lauch in April 2022 during the Global Summit in Manila, Philippines.
With Nayarit joining the Hotel Basics initiative, Mexico solidifies its position as a leader in the promotion of sustainability in the Travel and Tourism sector, contributing to the developing more inclusive and responsible globally.

The WTTC promotes sustainable growth for the sector, while continuing to collaborate with governments and international institutions to create more jobs, boost exports and generate greater prosperity.
