Tepic, Nayarit — Dec. 13, 2025 — The state of Nayarit marked a historic milestone Saturday with the arrival of WestJet’s inaugural flight from Calgary, Canada, at the new Tepic–Riviera Nayarit International Airport. The event represents the first time a direct flight from Canada has ever landed in the state.
This new international connection is part of Governor Miguel Ángel Navarro Quintero’s strategy to strengthen tourism, boost the local economy and position Nayarit as one of Mexico’s most appealing and accessible destinations.
State officials, tourism sector representatives and members of the media gathered at the airport to welcome the inaugural flight. During the ceremony, speakers highlighted the successful collaboration among WestJet, Calgary International Airport (YYC) and the Nayarit State Tourism Secretariat, whose coordinated efforts opened a new gateway to the region.

“This inaugural flight represents a historic opportunity to showcase Nayarit’s cultural, natural and culinary richness to the world. We thank WestJet for their confidence in our destination and all the passengers who chose to be part of this meaningful moment,” said Juan Enrique Suárez del Real Tostado, Nayarit’s Secretary of Tourism.
The new route will offer weekly service between Calgary and Tepic, providing direct access to the beaches, magic towns and unique attractions of Riviera Nayarit. The connection is expected to drive an increase in international arrivals and strengthen the region’s tourism industry.
With this milestone, Nayarit continues advancing its development vision under Governor Navarro Quintero’s leadership, consolidating its position as a modern, competitive and rapidly growing destination.
