May 24, 2021 – Merida, Yucatan – Mexico’s Minister of Tourism, Miguel Torruco Marqués, and the governor of the state of Yucatán, Mauricio Vila Dosal, announced this afternoon that in order to carry out a safe Tianguis Turistico in terms of bio-health, the event will be held in Merida from November 16 to 19 of this year.
They explained that the decision to move the 45th edition of Mexico’s largest tourism event from September to November is the result of the search for the best option to carry out a successful face-to-face event, which fulfills its main objective: to promote the commercialization of our different destinations, as well as its many products and services, taking maximum care of the health of both the participants and the local population.
With this new date, there will be greater possibilities of assistance, based on the advances in vaccination against Covid-19 both in Mexico and globally, which will surely reach a greater attendance of international buyers.
Mexico’s Minister of Tourism, Torruco Marqués affirmed that today the world is experiencing a more encouraging outlook, especially due to the application of vaccines against Covid-19, which advances every day in the different regions of the planet.
He cited Spain as an example, where last week the Feria Internacional de Turismo(Fitur) was held, which sent a very clear message to the world tourism sector, that events of this magnitude can be held now, always and when the biosanitary measures established by the competent authorities in the matter are respected.
“In the case of Mexico, the federal Ministry of Tourism and the government of Yucatán continue working to carry out the 45th edition of the Tianguis Turístico, which will take place in Mérida. This event had to be suspended in March 2020 and postponed to September of this year. However, both Governor Mauricio Vila, and I, have decided that this edition of Tianguis Turístico will take place from November 16 to 19,” he said.
For his part, Governor Mauricio Vila Dosal pointed out that the Tianguis Turístico will be a successful, strategic, efficient event and in accordance with the latest trends that we all expect, but above all it will be the watershed of post-Covid-19 tourism recovery.
“This is going to be a great moment for us, because it is going to provide us with a great opportunity to show all the great tourist attractions that Yucatán has and the new products that we are presenting,” said Vila Dosal.
Likewise, the Governor indicated that an innovative Tianguis Turístico is being organized and different from what has been done before, also due to the current pandemic situation, so it will be carried out in biosafety conditions, following the protocols and sanitary measures to take care of the health of the Yucatecans and of those who will come to participate in this exhibition.
Minister Marqués and Governor Vila Dosal specified that they are working on logistics that allow the event to be an area free of this disease, by implementing all the preventive measures and protocols indicated by both the World Organization of the Health, as per Mexico’s Ministry of Health.
They stressed that the priority will be bio-health safety, therefore, a first measure will be that, without exception, all attendees must perform an antigen test, which, when negative, will allow access to the event.
They indicated that this test will be linked to the badge and, if someone has not applied it or has a positive result, they will not be able to access the venue, or the meetings related to the Tianguis.
In addition, through the official channels of the Tianguis Turístico, participants will be informed about the measures that will be carried out during the event.
In this way, it will be possible to have confidence that the 45th edition of the Tianguis Turístico will take place in a safe environment that contributes to a very successful conference.
Finally, Michelle Fridman Hirsch, Tourism Minister of the state of Yucatan (Sefotur) added “this edition of the Tianguis has been highly anticipated by our industry, we have in front of us the enormous opportunity to make this the starting point for the recovery and reinvention of our sector; We have the opportunity to reinvent the Tianguis as the great showcase of Mexico for the world, according to the latest trends and global needs ”.
