The state of Yucatan opens Bridge to Mexico as the guest destination of the Consulate General of Mexico in San Diego

San Diego, July 16, 2022 – The state of Yucatan, with its ancient history, culture, and gastronomy, will be featured at the Consulate General of Mexico in San Diego as part of its Puente a México’s tourism project (Bridge to Mexico), which opened yesterday and will continue today July 16, 2022.

Puente a México is an open invitation to every state to take advantage of the Consulate General’s premises in San Diego’s Little Italy’s neighborhood, as an ideal platform to promote for a weekend, every month, their art, culture, gastronomy, services, and tourist destinations.

With key allies and partners such as Cross Border Xpress (CBX) and Mexican airline Volaris, Bridge to Mexico will allow Sandiegans to discover Yucatan as an outstanding tourism destination through exhibitions, regional food, and craft beer tastings.

Consul General of Mexico, Carlos González Gutiérrez, along with the state of Yucatan’s Minister of Tourism, Michelle Fridman Hirsch led a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday. The exhibition is free to the public and features regional handcrafts, photographs, and clothing that will be appreciated by thousands of passers-by, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

“Puente a México will allow more Californians to discover the breathtaking landmarks of Yucatan and reinforce its image as a powerhouse in the fields of art, culture, gastronomy, and tourism. It will be a platform to further strengthen its reputation as one of the best options for the international traveler”, said Consul General.

The state of Yucatan will participate in Little Italy’s Farmers’ Market, on July 16 and 23, from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., in a space displaying guayaberas and hammocks, with the support of the Yucatecan Institute of Entrepreneurs (IYEM acronym in Spanish).

“We are very happy to present the great diversity of Yucatan to one of the most powerful markets in the world with which we are increasingly connected,” said Michelle Fridman, Minister of Tourism for the state of Yucatan.

Furthermore, the state will hold an exhibition in the “House of Mexico” in Balboa Park, also located in San Diego, from July to September 2022, where handicrafts, photographs, maps, and traditional clothing will be exhibited.

The state of Yucatan will also take part in Casa México at Comic-Con, from July 21 to 24, where at least 50 thousand visitors are expected.

Last week, the state of Yucatan launched its 365 days of the Flavors of Yucatan campaign with events taking place in San Diego and Los Angeles, introducing the rich culinary offering the state can offer its guests to members of the media, trade and key members of the local community.

Every week Yucatan receives an average of 179 domestic flights and 24 international flights with 33,806 seats available. From January to May 2022, national flights continued growing in comparison to the records prior to the pandemic, with a total of 647,233 tourist arrivals exceeding the figure for the same period in 2019 (636,381 tourists). In 2022, the arrival of 103 cruise ships with 197,000 passengers is expected.
