Nayarit Strengthens Canadian Market Presence During Mexico Tourism Roadshow in Vancouver

Mexico’s Pacific Coast state joins SECTUR in Vancouver to connect with Canadian travel professionals and explore new opportunities in air connectivity, tourism development, and trade partnerships

VANCOUVER, British Columbia — Sept. 9, 2026 — Nayarit is strengthening its presence in one of its most important international markets this week as the Mexican Pacific state participates in the Mexico Tourism Roadshow organized by Mexico’s federal Ministry of Tourism, or SECTUR, in Vancouver.

Taking place Sept. 9-10, the Vancouver program brings Mexican tourism representatives together with Canadian travel professionals and industry partners as part of broader efforts to strengthen tourism and commercial ties between Mexico and Canada.

For Nayarit, the visit comes at a significant moment in the destination’s development, as the state continues to expand its international profile beyond the established Riviera Nayarit resort corridor and promote a broader tourism offering encompassing luxury, culture, gastronomy, adventure, wellness, Indigenous and community-based tourism.

Bringing Nayarit Directly to the Canadian Travel Trade

Nayarit is a featured destination during the Sept. 9 Presentation and Networking of Mexican Destinations, held at the Pinnacle Hotel Harbourfront in Vancouver. The program includes an individual destination presentation by Nayarit followed by nearly an hour of networking and B2B meetings between participating Mexican destinations and Canadian tourism professionals.
The presentation will give Nayarit an opportunity to update Canadian travel professionals on the destination’s evolving tourism landscape, from established beach destinations such as Punta de Mita, Sayulita and San Pancho to Tepic, San Blas, Compostela, Jala and other communities across the state.

Among the destination’s key messages is the opportunity to experience Nayarit beyond a traditional sun-and-beach vacation.

Travelers can surf along the Pacific, explore mangroves and birdlife around San Blas, meet coffee producers in Compostela, discover wine grown near the Ceboruco volcano, experience the traditions of Nayarit’s Pueblos Mágicos and explore a growing collection of community, cultural, culinary and adventure experiences.

At the luxury end of the market, Nayarit continues to attract significant international hospitality investment while established properties and destinations throughout Riviera Nayarit continue to evolve their culinary, wellness and experiential offerings.

Connectivity at the Center of the Conversation

Air access is another central focus of the Vancouver mission.

The broader SECTUR agenda includes meetings with Air Canada, Aeroméxico and the Vancouver Airport Authority, with discussions covering route development, tourism promotion, incentives and opportunities to strengthen connectivity between Canada and Mexico. A meeting with Flair Airlines is also being explored around potential new Canada-Mexico routes and the exchange of market data.
For Nayarit, Western Canada is particularly significant because Canadian travelers have historically played an important role in Riviera Nayarit’s international visitor market.

The development of the Tepic-Riviera Nayarit International Airport (TPQ) is adding a new dimension to that relationship, creating another gateway for travelers to access both the coast and Nayarit’s interior. Seasonal nonstop service between Vancouver and Tepic also gives the destination an opportunity to encourage Canadian travelers to explore beyond the traditional Puerto Vallarta-Riviera Nayarit corridor.

Looking Beyond Leisure Travel

The Vancouver program also provides opportunities to explore tourism development beyond traditional vacation travel.

Meetings with Destination BC, Destination Vancouver and Indigenous Tourism BC are designed to encourage an exchange of best practices and tourism strategies. The organizations play important roles in tourism promotion, research, planning and development across British Columbia, including areas with particular relevance to Nayarit as it expands cultural, Indigenous and community-based tourism.

The agenda also includes conversations involving the wine and beverage industry, transportation, aviation and potential partnerships with Canadian tourism events and media. The Beverage Collective, for example, specializes in bringing premium and artisanal beverages into the Canadian market, including working with Mexican spirits producers.

These discussions complement Nayarit’s growing emphasis on gastronomy as both a tourism experience and an opportunity to introduce regional products — including coffee, wine, raicilla and other locally produced goods — to international audiences.

Canada Remains a Priority for Nayarit

Nayarit’s participation in the SECTUR roadshow forms part of a broader strategy to strengthen relationships with the Canadian travel industry through travel adviser education, tour operator partnerships, media relations, air connectivity, and destination promotion.

Vancouver and Western Canada are particularly well suited to Nayarit’s expanding tourism offering. Beyond winter sun, the destination offers experiences that align with Canadian interests in outdoor travel, nature, wellness, gastronomy, surfing, culture, and increasingly experiential forms of luxury.

The objective is not simply to bring more Canadian travelers to Nayarit but to encourage them to discover more of the state once they arrive.

From the Pacific beaches of Riviera Nayarit to coffee-growing communities, volcanic landscapes, historic towns, Indigenous traditions, and the mangroves of San Blas, Nayarit is using its growing relationship with Canada to tell a much larger destination story.
