“Total solar eclipse will be visible in Nayarit”

A total solar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes directly between the Sun and Earth, completely blocking the Sun’s face. As a result, a shadow is projected onto our planet, transforming day into night.

Similar to 1991, this year we will experience a total solar eclipse. It is set to occur on April 8, and it will be visible in the three North American countries: Mexico, United States, and Canada. However, our country, Mexico, will have the best weather conditions for observation, and the duration of the total eclipse phase will be longer here.

Therefore, the scientific community in Mexico considers this event as the Great Mexican Eclipse.

When and where to observe the total solar eclipse?

While the states with the highest visibility or complete visibility of this natural phenomenon will be Sinaloa, Coahuila, and Durango, in Nayarit, municipalities such as Acaponeta, Tecuala, and Huajicori will experience a 99.8% magnitude, while in Tepic, the capital city of Nayarit, it will be approximately 96.6%.

The eclipse will last approximately two hours, beginning around 9:50 a.m. and reaching its maximum totality at 11:07 a.m. Pacific Time.

Additionally, the Autonomous University of Nayarit, in collaboration with the Research and Postgraduate Secretariat of UAN, will set up observation points in the northern municipalities. Likewise, the Xúirave Collective for Astronomy and Science will have a designated spot at the UAN esplanade in Tepic.

It is anticipated that thousands of people will gather at El Novillero Beach to witness this natural phenomenon, much like it occurred 33 years ago.
