Fireflies Light up Tlaxcala

Tlaxcala, Mexico – Natures magic is always amazing, and when you can live experiences like the arrival of fireflies in Tlaxcala, you must feel privileged because you will be able to feel the indescribable emotion that occurs when you see these small creatures decorate the forest with their “intermittent light bulbs”. In Tlaxcala you will find a very important part of history as it was the starting point in the construction of the country, and you will be able to see it through its culture, heritage, traditions and gastronomy.

During your walk through the city, you will find activities including visiting the monumental mural of almost 5 thousand square feet that is located in the Government Palace of Tlaxcala. Its author, the teacher Desiderio Hernandez Xochitiotzo, worked for almost 40 years on this mural. Its essential that you also visit the Nuestra Señora de la Asunción Convent, made up of one of the first cathedrals in Latin America that is still standing, accompanied by the open chapel and a 16th century bell tower so that you can learn about the history of Mexico.

After spending the day learning about the history of Mexico, head over to one of the fireflies Sanctuaries at either Nanacamilpa or Calpulalpan where you will be able to enjoy the fireflies in their habitat. The male fireflies light up in a synchronized fashion in an attempt to attract female fireflies who are on the ground where they live.
