Nayarit Set to Lead with Strongest Projection at Tianguis Turístico 2026

ACAPULCO, Mexico (April 28, 2026) — The state of Nayarit is poised to take center stage at Tianguis Turístico, Mexico’s premier tourism marketplace, which marks its 50th edition and will take place April 27–30 at Expo Mundo Imperial in Acapulco.

The Ministry of Tourism of Nayarit has developed an ambitious, multi-day agenda that will include major announcements across sports tourism, gastronomy, culture, and business development, alongside the signing of key partnerships, awards presentations, immersive activations, and the unveiling of new strategic alliances—reinforcing Nayarit’s positioning as a top-tier destination for both domestic and international travelers.

Nayarit’s leadership at this milestone edition builds on strong momentum from previous years. Governor Miguel Ángel Navarro Quintero and Tourism Secretary Juan Enrique Suárez del Real Tostado have consistently elevated the state’s presence at Tianguis, showcasing its diverse tourism portfolio with a particular focus on the internationally recognized Riviera Nayarit.

For 2026, Nayarit continues to expand its footprint with innovative marketing strategies, including the “Paradise Keeps Going” campaign, supported by the complementary narrative “The Journey Keeps Going,” aimed at driving digital conversion and maintaining strong brand visibility across key international markets.

Growth projections further underscore the destination’s upward trajectory. More than 15 new developments are expected to open between 2026 and 2027, with over 15% growth anticipated in the luxury and “workation” segments. Nayarit has also strengthened its global visibility through high-impact partnerships with major sports franchises, including the Los Angeles Lakers, Vancouver Canucks, and Dallas Cowboys, while ongoing negotiations with the Los Angeles Dodgers could expand reach to an audience of more than 70 million baseball fans worldwide.

Tourism performance continues to surge. The state welcomes well over 10 million visitors annually, with average hotel occupancy reaching 82% in 2025—up significantly from 45% in 2021. Peak season occupancy climbs as high as 94%, generating an economic impact exceeding MXN $6 billion. International visitors account for 83% of arrivals, led by the United States (54%) and Canada (26%), while domestic tourism represents the remaining 17%.

Infrastructure investment is also fueling growth. The state has committed more than MXN $12.4 billion to major highway projects, including the Tepic–Compostela and Compostela–Las Varas corridors. On the airlift front, more than 240,000 passengers arrived in 2025, with projections set to rise significantly following the opening of a new terminal at Aeropuerto Internacional de Tepic later this year, enabling service from larger aircraft and supporting long-term plans to surpass 15 million annual passengers.

Beyond infrastructure and visitation, Nayarit continues to gain international recognition. Forbes has highlighted the destination as a key hub for luxury tourism, foreign investment, and exclusive experiences along Mexico’s Pacific coast. Meanwhile, the Guía México Gastronómico 2026 named eight Nayarit restaurants among the country’s top 250: Codex, Cosecha Farm to Table, Emiliano, Hector’s Kitchen, La Casa by Thierry Blouet, Loma 42, Makai, and Zicatela.

Nayarit is ready to shine at Tianguis Turístico 2026 as a top spot for travel, investment, and cultural experiences, thanks to its strong infrastructure, high international demand, smart partnerships, and a variety of new projects, all while promoting a tourism approach that focuses on sustainability, heritage, and community involvement.

Over the past year, the state of Nayarit and the Riviera Nayarit have secured strong and sustained media visibility across top-tier outlets in the United States and Canada, reinforcing the destination’s position as one of Mexico’s fastest-rising tourism markets. Coverage in leading publications such as The New York Times, The Globe and Mail, and AFAR has highlighted the region’s unique blend of luxury, culture, and natural beauty, while also spotlighting its growing accessibility and investment momentum. Additional recognition from premier travel titles including Condé Nast Traveler and Forbes has further elevated Riviera Nayarit onto influential “Best Places to Go” and emerging destination lists, underscoring its appeal among discerning travelers. This breadth of high-impact earned media coverage is a result of the destination’s partnership with ENroute Communications, its PR agency in New York, and has played a key role in positioning Nayarit as a compelling alternative to more saturated Mexican destinations, driving increased awareness and demand among both consumer and trade audiences across North America.
