Mérida, Yucatán, March 22, 2023.- The Minister of Tourism of the state of Yucatan, Michelle Fridman is attending the activities and meetings of Routes Americas, the leading aviation event in the American continent, which brings together decision makers for airlines, airports, and destinations.

Routes Americas is an efficient platform for building high-value relationships with a qualified audience of decision makers of the air service industry from across the region. It is also the perfect platform to develop a recovery strategy, obtain exclusive information and discuss new market opportunities with the people who decide where the planes of the region fly, all under the same roof.

During this edition of Routes Americas, a broad social program will be held; as well as conferences that will include high-level speakers in the aviation sector; it also offers a comprehensive overview of the most relevant issues that the industry is facing today and allows all the attendants to hear from senior airline professionals an exclusive view of how the market has changed in recent years and what lies ahead.

From March 21 to 23, Michelle Fridman, Minister of Tourism of the state of Yucatan, and Raul Paz Technical Director at the Ministry of Tourism of the state of Yucatan, will hold important meetings, mainly with airlines that currently do not operate in Yucatán, such as Spirit Airlines, Delta Airlines, Porter Airlines, and LATAM Airlines, among others, to present the destination, seeking its inclusion in future operations schedules.

“For Yucatán, attending this meeting represents the opportunity to continue growing exponentially, allowing us to establish better relationships and projects that will result in a positive impact for the state, not only by attracting new routes and investors but also as a platform to show the world the great work that the joint venture between the private sector and the Government of Yucatan has done. The state has positioned itself as a leading destination that has everything to host large events,” said Michelle Fridman, head of the Ministry of Tourism of the state of Yucatan.

2022 was the year of the tourist and economic recovery of Yucatan. The state reported a 200% growth in international air connectivity, and 11 routes that connect the destination with the main cities of the country.  This year, with the expansion and renovation of Merida’s International Airport, Manuel Crescencio Rejón, it is expected that more routes and flights will be added to the destination’s offer.

The recent month of February has been considered the best in the history of Yucatan, registering 280,991 passengers arriving at Merida’s International Airport, which meant a growth of 53.7% compared to the same period in 2022. From January to February 2023, there was a total movement of 585,196 travelers, the highest number for the first two months, with an accumulated 56.5%, compared to 2022.
